Description
TLD_logo.png

The Last Days of the Third Age is a mod for Mount & Blade 1.011 set in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth during the War of the Ring.

There are far too many features to be listed here!

A preliminary start up guide, which includes an install guide, can be found in the TLD 3.0 Manual FAQ.pdf

IMPORTANT: this version is just the first pre-Beta release of 3.0!
It should be playable to the end, but huge quantities of bugs are expected.
Also, tuning and balancing problems.
Hotfixes are also likely in the very near future.

Patch from 3.0 to 3.01 can be downloaded here: http://www.mbrepository.com/file.php?id=3370

Troubleshooting:

Problem: crashes at start-up saying something about "windy-flora"?

This Mod has to launched with the Iron Launcher ("IronLauncher.exe") that comes with it, not the usual "Mount and Blade.exe".
You can find it inside the TLD module folder. News: if that doesn't work, try right-clicking on it and "run as administrator".

Problem: the Iron Launcher doesn't work

Answer 1: You got that this mod is for 1.011, right?
Answer 2: Be awaree that it sometimes takes a while to kick in.)
Answer 3: Failing everything else, there is a sequence of steps you can do to bypass the launcher, in the manual above.

There is a guide for Steam users on our forums - third post here:

http://mbx.streetofeyes.com/index.php/topic,2465.0.html

The installation is not difficult at all and we don't have many options to make it any simpler.

We are sorry you're unable to do it properly, but simply "copying to module folder and playing" is not possible, because this mod changes things the normal mods don't and has features they don't. That's why we've included the Iron Launcher, which makes it very simple.

It may be slightly more complex for Steam users, because of Steam's non-standard way of installing games. But it's doable and frankly - not our problem.

incredible! sublime!! the best modification that i play, and i play A LOT of mods... just few bugs for now but totally playable. i cant talk to ally partys in map, and the orc and dwarve third person camera is too higher, cant see the character (cant see the direction of the swing i m about to do). is it possible to expand proportionally the uruk hai model to make it just a little bigger than human? just a humble question from a modding ignorant.

Great work! THANKS for this fantastic mod!... ll notify about other bugs if i find it.

(sorry my bad spelling, i hardly speak english)

Hello...

First of all, this mod is brilliant, epical, fantastic!
The installation method little bit strange, but if have some previously experience, or "ability of read" ;-) ...well...not cause problem.
This mod really total conversion, not just some couple minor change, or new name.
A map considerable little, but least not fps falling. A graphic ...oh...visually pleased, far more better everything i seen before.

Thanks, many thanks to author and i waiting the final release. :hammer:

Sorry my weird language, but i'm hungarian.

Biztosan sok magyar játékostársam követi az mbrepository-t napi szinten - ez a modul kihagyhatatlan, mindenképp a legjobb amivel az elmúlt 2-3 évben találkoztam.

Hello...

:-) [email protected]

Impressive. Is there some tweak to lower the density of the vegetation? My humble computer struggles to display the dense forests.

Hello...

The bad news is this.: my PC not too humble...dual core 2.6GH, 512 VGA, 3GB RAM...and NOT ENOUGH. :-(

But i have some idea.

Get the paint.net picture editor.
Open the TLD mod, textures folder. -> open a grass, bushes, bushes_b and tree...textures with paint.net.
This picture (this DDS file) default size 2MB, and 2048x1024 pixel. Try reduce this size...to do this, choose the "images" option --> "resize" and then "width" 1024, and "height" 512 pixel, and save. The result size is 512 KB ;-) This pictures not too nice, but least fast...
Furthermore tip...try simply cut out the unnecessery part of textures...NOT a entire grass, or bush textures, just couple "bad looking" parts. ( Don't try the tree!)!!!
Wait, i'm explain:)
Open the TLD mod, textures folder. -> open a grass pic with paint.net. Choose a "tool" option, and "rectangle effect". Mark the unpleasant part of the texture, and click the "scissors" ikon. Like this.: http://kepfeltoltes.hu/111105/1131824759grass_example_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg ...this just a sample, but a real version work - of course.

Important! This method require some previously experience, and recommended make the textures backup folder.
By the way...lesser process - faster run.

Sorry about my strange style, but i'm still hungarian

@Armut Asil: I followed your instructions (more or less). As I don't use Windows much except for gaming and was too lazy to install the .NET framework, I used KolourPaint and nconvert under Linux to achieve the same goals. KolourPaint can read DDS, but not save, so used it to manipulate the images, save to a lossless format (PNG), then used nconvert to to convert back to DDS. The savings, anyhow, are notable:
Code:
260K grass.dds 2,7M grass.dds.orig 516K bushes.dds 5,4M bushes.dds.orig 36K bushes_b.dds 344K bushes_b.dds.orig 516K trees.dds 5,4M trees.dds.orig

I'd say that I've gained a few FPS in the battles. Still, I'm afraid this mod is a bit too much for my cheap laptop with integrated Intel graphics. I might be able to borrow a better computer next year (desktop with nVidia card). I will surely give TLD another try then.

Congrats anyhow, this work (as I said earlier) is impressive.
