Formations and AI Mods by Motomataru
Compiled for WB 1.143

This kit is the compilation of two minimods by motomataru.

1. A formations mod
2. An extension mod to replace Native AI

The formations mod is an extensive reworking of the original simple interface by Mirathei. At a command, infantry can form in ranks by level, ranks by shield/weapon, wedge by level, or square. Cavalry can form a wedge, and archers a staggered line. Formations follow all battlefield commands, including from the battle panel. Native AI is given the ability to make the same formations.

The formations AI replaces Native AI. It makes decisions based primarily on army size rather than army composition. Each type of unit has different objectives. The intent was to make the AI smarter AND more proactive.

Place this directory in the Modules directory for your Warband installation.

To the best of my knowledge, these modules are save compatible with Native. To play your Native save games, go to your save games directory and make a copy the Native subdirectory. Rename it formAI.

Any time in-game that you have a formation form or "Hold," it will set up near the position that the player had when the command was issued: infantry to the left, cavalry to the right, and archers up front. Use Advance or Hold-F1 to keep a formation near its current position.

Whenever a unit first forms a particular formation, troops spread out for ease of forming up. Use the usual command to close ranks.

Player troops start every battle holding in formation.

F4 brings up a formations menu. The "ranks" command for archers puts them in a staggered line. Cavalry will not make any formation other than the wedge.

Charge and Retreat (and Dismount for cavalry) will undo a formation. To attack in formation, the player may Advance multiple times to have a formation move toward the average position of the enemy. Or use the order panel or hold-F1 to place them (or sweep them across the enemy for the cavalry wedge).

Order tracking is problemmatic in Warband (see,34685.msg2899385.html#msg2899385). Since ESC cannot be tracked mid-command and will mess up order tracking, the player ought to re-identify the battle group rather than ESC out of the command menu.

For more information or to report problems, see the forum,34685.html

Formations and AI Minimods - Compil (v 1.134)  » posted by Goutlard on Feb 28, 2011, 01:55:41 pm
I love this mod! :)
Very good work. Just a question, can you make a version of this that would be easily combinable with other modules & would be like open souce?

I tried to combine that with the "Crossbows of slightly less doom", but I didn't arrived.
In order :
1.I added "load_module_resource = caba_order" in the end of the module note... (I don't have very good english ^^')
2.I added caba_order to ressource and order_frame to texture.

I don't know if you are okay that we use it combined with other mods so I tried to do that for personnal use only :)
Have a nice day! ;-)
