Description
NOTE: THIS TOOL ONLY AFFECTS THE BATTLE SIZE IN THE SINGLE PLAYER GAME, NOT MULTIPLAYER.

With this tool you can get around the game's battle size limit of 150 and instead choose up to 1000. Note that overly large battle sizes can very easily crash Warband if your computer isn't able to handle them, or at the least cause horrible slowdowns. Don't even expect to be able to have battles of size 1000 even if you have the latest and greatest hardware; that upper limit is that high to give plenty of leeway. If you experience crashes, you should lower the battle size.

This tool is packaged in an installer and will optionally create a desktop shortcut.

How to use this tool:
1. Make sure to have run Warband at least once so the configuration data files are created.
2. Make sure Warband is not running when you use this tool.
3. Run this tool, choose your desired battle size, then save and exit.
4. When you next run Warband, the desired battle size will be set (which can be confirmed on the options screen).

Changelist:
v1.5
  • update to support Warband 1.112+, since the configuration file location was changed
v1.4.1
  • properly fixed support for regions which use "," as a decimal separator; oops, previous such fix didn't quite cut it
v1.4
  • fixed support for regions which use "," as a decimal separator
  • working detection of Steam Warband installation directory
v1.3
  • initial release

Re: Warband Battle Size Changer (v 1.3)  » posted by Daron on Apr 07, 2010, 12:06:52 pm
Just installed and ran it afew minutes ago. Cranked to 400, saved, exited and ran Warband. Checked options and scrolled down- there it is, working just like in M&B1. Found a big battle in-game. It was epic!

So yea- it functions perfectly on XP. My friend uses Win 7 and he says it worked too. Thanks for porting this invaluable tool to Warband, Janus. Mount&Blade isn't the same game without it.

Shame on those claiming this is a virus. Seriously, who hasn't got a false warning before? I get a warning at least once a day, on totally legit downloads and programs.

You guys need to be running multiple scanners and really be sure what you're looking at before you go throwing that kind of accusation around. Come on people, he runs the website. Think about it.

yes it show the same battle size. i tried to change it to something 300 just to test it. i saved and quited ad i opened the battle size changer again and it showed 300. then i started warband and the battle size was back to 150. strange :/
OK, so the Battle Size Changer is consistently showing the last saved battle size right up until you run Warband, which sets it back to 150?
Try setting the battle size to something lower using the Battle Size Changer (again something like 96, 37, whatever) and check again to see if it's changed back to 150 or whatever by Warband itself. That will determine if Warband is somehow rejecting any battle size changes or just those which are out of its normal range.

Also, again, what version of Warband are you running? It should show on the startup screen in the upper right. I've been testing on 1.104 and one version before that... I think it was 1.102.

EDIT: additionally I've tested it in 1.105 now, and it's working for me there too.
i've got a pattern emerging here. if i set the size all the way up to 1000, save and exit, then run the sizer again, it has gone down to 990 by itself. then it's -120 in every consequent run, 870,750,630,510..........30. astonishing. whichever battle size i choose, it rounds itself down to the nearest progression member and the game gets it. also, battlesizer recognises any <150 size i set in warband itself.

version is 1.104, don't know what steam is, got vista 64bit.

OK, with the assistance of a helpful forumite over on the TaleWorlds forum, I've tracked down and fixed the problem some people were having. It was related to the user locale's decimal separator being a comma (",") instead of a period or full stop ("."), which was confusing it.
Additionally, I've improved Steam installation support. It doesn't appear I can detect the Warband installation path from Steam like could be done with the original M&B, but I did set it up to check the default Steam installation path which should work for pretty much all Steam users.

So, that's version 1.4 released. If you had no problems whatsoever with version 1.3, there's no real reason to update to 1.4; otherwise, 1.4 should take care of any problems you were having.

Hmm, oops. Looks like the decimal fix in 1.4 didn't cut it after all; 1.4.1 is now released which should really fix it this time. Sorry about that.

I confirm this is really fixed. I had a battle with 650 men on the field roughly and it was confusing but once i set up my lines with Infantry in front archers in the middle along with 2 custom class crossbowmen on each flank and a custom class merc. cavalry behind the crossbowmen and the rest of my cavalry riding the rear. It is insane how well the new battle mechanics work. It took a few to get the hang of it but I decimated the Swadian scum... thank you for your attentive work on making it possible to conduct epic battles beyond the capacity of the vanilla game, with out altering the master files

Is that actually a serious question? If so: no.

If you want to check such a thing for any file, the VirusTotal site is your friend. For example:
http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/d9d44673ed55637c60bc7783d95a873cb7ebc0eee63eddbaab2bef6a72909a75-1278844591

If you get 0-2 antivirus programs in the list of ~41 there showing a file as a virus or trojan, chances are it's nothing to worry about. Any more than that and you might want to be careful with it.

EDIT: but I expect you knew that, having now checked your IP against the official TW forums out of curiosity and finding that I banned you over there for piracy. Nice try, though.

OK, so do this to clarify what problem you're having:
1. Don't have Warband running to begin with.
2. Run the Battle Size Changer and set it to 500, presumably with no error messages given, and then save and exit.
3. Run Warband and go into the Options screen.
What is the Battle Size listed as on this screen? It should be listed as 500, as long as you don't click on the slider which would set it back into the normal range.

When you run the Battle Size Changer again, what value is it initially set at now? 500 or 150?

You already said it was set at 150 in-game. So again, when you run the Battle Size Changer again afterward, what value does it start off set at? 500 or 150?

Just to be sure, what version of Warband are you running, and what version of the Battle Size Changer? When you start Warband, it should show the version in the upper right of the initial window, and the version of the Battle Size Changer should be shown up in the title bar of it.

Not that it's relevant here, but v1.126 of Warband is available.
What version of the Battle Size Changer is it? As I said, the version is in the title bar, at the very top. You gave the detected Warband version there, which is at the bottom.
