Description
Formations kit v1.32.10.0111

Functions:
Array(battle) assignment: Talk to NPCs in your party. You can see option "I'm planning to raise a new battle command...". By doing this you assign that NPC as the leader of your new array.
Array(battle) men management: After assignning array, camp, in the menu click "Take an action". In the next menu you should see the option "Manage battle arrays". Click on it then you see the list of your battle arrays. Your main battle won't be listed here. Click on the array you want to assign men to, the next menu you should click "summon ** battle" to see the troop exchange window. In case you assign more troops than the sub-commander can lead, you can't navigate out of the menu.
Battlefield Controls: Also in the camp menu -> Take an action -> Formation Keys Configuration, you can set up your preferred keys. Here's a list of functions for all keys:
* Battle! (Default key '6' to '=', back slash ans '1' for Everyone just as in Native) - Choose the Battle or all Battles as order listener. By holding 'ctrl' key you can select multiple Battles or unselect one from them.
Next/Previous formation (Default key 'y' and 'u') - to select formations
Stand closer/Spread out (Default key 'f8' and 'f9') - to order formations to change density
Follow me(Default key 'f2') - to order formations follow palyer
Hold this position (Default key 'f1') - to order formations move to player's position. Holding this key for 1s brings up command cursor.
Auto rotation (Default key 'g') - to toggle formations between keeping the same direction or always face enemies
Apply formation (Default key 'k') - to order Battles for the formation selected
Charge/Fall back/Halt (Default key 'b', 'm' and 'n' respectively) - to order formations to move in a certain speed. Pressed multiple times can accelerate the formations.
Tactical charge (Default key 'h') - to apply the built-in formation charge strategy for a Battle. Further explanation will follow.
Move forward/backward/left/right (Default arrow keys) - to move formaitons ten meters toward a direction.
Turn left/right (Default key comma and period) - to order formations to turn 15 degrees
Dismiss formation (Default key 'o') - to order battles dismiss formation and charge freely
View Order Panel (Default key 'x') - to bring up the order panel for formations
AI formations: In the key config menu you can also choose to enable or disable the AI formations, that is, whether the enemies and allies can use formations. When AI formations disabled, Native tactics will be applied for enemies and allies in battle field.
About Tactical Charge: This is a new thing compared to previous version. Basically it binds a tactical action to a specific formation. So if a battle is in a formation, say, wedge formation, then when applying tactical charge, the formation will do back & forth cavalry charge, as wedge formation is typically for cavalries.
Here's a list of paired formations and tactical charges:
Lines - For ranged units, formation will march toward enemies until from a certain distance and start firing.
Phalanxes - For melee units, formation will simply march toward enemies and crush anything in between.
Wedges - For cavalries, formations will charge through enemy formations, turn back, and charge again.
Squares - Same as Phalanxes.
Order Panel: Just something filling the Native Order Panel frame. So it has similar functions as the Native one. All orders can be given by clicking buttons. And also, order "move to this position" can be given by clicking ont the map!
Skills requirement: Compared to native, both players renown and leadership skill have now less effect on the party's capacity. i. e. you can lead less men in your party. This is to balance the extra men you can have in your battle arrays.

Formulas: main battle capacity = player's leadership*3+renown/68+base(10)
battle array capacity = NPC leader's tactics*2+NPC leader's intelligence+main battle capacity/battle array no.(so 2 for veward battle, 3 for reaward battle, 4 for forth battle and so on... The last side battle would have the least capacity)
max num of arrays(excluding main battle) = min{player's tactics -1, 8}

Known bug: If a battle has no one in it, after enter/leave a center or camp/leave without assigning men to it, it disappears.

Last thing: New game recommended. But you can use your native samegames "in theory", you'll suffer minor losses like a wrong honor record or kicked out from your faction XD. If you have a savegame of my previous version, I think it's fine to use it without having trouble, as I always tested this new version on my old character and never created a new one :-P.

To install txts:Under Modules are the MOD files. To install, first make an exact copy of the folder Mount&Blade/modules/native, rename it as FormRanks, and copy all MOD files into that folder(except module.ini), replace all.

I noticed you included the Source code for that and thank you very much, if I wanted to add Form ranks to, lets say, The Flaming Arrows mod, how would I do it, or is that a highly complex process that will most likely not work?

Another...Ulfgar Review...

This is a really buggy mod.

It's pretty cool nonetheless, but the bugs are somewhat serious. I don't know if these issues will occur on all systems or if mine is just "special",

Here they are:

All NPC's (Hero's) hair colors turn a bizzare unnatural color.

Executing movement command via the "x" window causes "red script" error's. The mod makes the game lag a little in combat, but not horrible bad (nothing like Expanded Gameplay III).

Those issues aren't and the fact that the author included the source code say's allot about them, and allows the user to try and fix issues.

Also, I would recommend never using the normal battle map again if you attempt to use this mod. Also, I believe you will see more enemies on the map, and I have not seen the enemy use troop formations.

Nonethless, the concept works. It's very difficult to get used to as well, you get some odd issues develop, but you can definately see a difference if you actually utilize this mod the way it is intended.

I think it's a great start and I look forward to seeing further improvements on it. After testing it, I can surely see why not all mods implement it, but I would love to see all mods have this feature, and I see no reason why they should not.

Hi Ulfgar,
Thank you for your constructive comments! Regarding the bugs you reported, I've got no reporting about these bugs for this mod as a stand-along one. Did you mix it with something else? Thanks for mentioning the lag thing, perhaps I'll have to mind more of the efficiency issue. And did you try setting up the keys and turn on the AI formation in the camp menu?

Your very welcome,

I think it must have taken tremendous effort to make this mod, and I wanted to make sure you got the feedback your hard work deserved as well as letting the user know what to expect.

My formula for install....

1. Make a copy of Native
2. Rename it to "FormRanks"
3. Copy everything except module.ini

My module.ini in native is tweaked a bit.... here are the current tweaks.....

module_name = Namron
time_multiplier = 0.50
seeing_range = 7.0
track_spotting_multiplier = 0.8
blood_multiplier = 4.0
skill_leadership_bonus = 30
base_companion_limit = 30
player_xp_multiplier = 2.0;
hero_xp_multiplier = 3.0;
regulars_xp_multiplier = 25.0;
display_wp_firearms = 1
horse_charge_damage_multiplier = 3.5
couched_lance_damage_multiplier = 4.5
missile_damage_speed_power = 4.0;
melee_damage_speed_power = 3.3;
limit_hair_colors = 0
show_faction_color = 1
show_quest_notes = 1

I am only displaying the things I have altered here.
"Regarding the bugs you reported, I've got no reporting about these bugs for this mod as a stand-along one. Did you mix it with something else?"

Specifically, my formula for setting up my command was...

1. Hire a Hero
2. Talk to Hero and tell them I want to put them in command blah blah blah
3. Click the camp menu
4. Select "Take an action"
5. Select "Manage Battle Arrays"
6. Select whichever on the was on the list
7. Transfer over the combatants *non hero's" to the array.
8. The click dismiss or whatever to leave that.

My errors in combat (slightly, and I do mean very slightly laggy)

Error: Press "x", select formation, then click on map to send a unit to formation, displays a red error message, invalid string, and the party still moves to postion, however later in the fight the party will no move at all, and the backspace menu becaomes useless for giving directional orders to anyone. This could be because I told the party to hold I am not sure.

Graphics Glitch in Tavern and on battlefield
Glitch: Hero's show up with bizzare monotone colored hair, or traslucent for Ymira. There is a possibility this is due to this command line altered in module.ini.
"limit_hair_colors = 0" However I do not have issues in native with it.

Also, Character name = Julias Tesla (my test character for all mods)
All attributes maxed to 50
All skills maxed 10
All weapon skills 500
Money at 1,000,000

Tomorow I will try and get a pure vanilla and then paste it.

All procedures correct. I can't see the cause of problem. Maybe some latent factor...
By the way, may I ask a favor from you? As you've already mentioned about the lag, could you test out if it's caused by the formation AI? So you play it with & without AI and tell the difference. My laptop is so slow that I can't tell the difference between lagging and even more lagging... Thank you in advance!

Well i tried it and i really love the idea.

but whenever i have some ranks ( and i can move em around and such )

and i just want them to charge the enemy, they just walk forward in a straight line. which i find rather useless, because half of my rank doesnt attack the enemy.

can you perhaps explain me how this all works ?

you can add me on msn or just email me @ [email protected]

i really hope you can help me out with that, because the mod is great, bugs dont bother me.

Hehllo noobnr39, you might just want to use the tactical charge(default key H) instead of the one commanding them just to march forward. :-P

Hey Foxyman,

I tried that, but they sides of the formations would ignore the enemies too :S
really odd. So far, im only using the ranks for archer groups, which works extremely well. having infantry up the front, commanding with backspace, and sending archers in the flanks : ).

Is there any way to combine it with Sword of Damocles or The Eagle and the Radiant cross mod ? Id love to play it even more that way : )

Yea, because they are commanded to hold formations, some too far away from enemies will not attack. But if you try those formations more you'll find more efficient ways to utilize them.
As to using this in other MOD, the work have to be done by the original author of that MOD in most cases. Some have tried this on MODs. And MODs like Revenge of the Berserker incorporated this already.
